Version 3 Upgrade FAQ's
If you are currently a Scrip Pro 2 user, you are entitled to a FREE upgrade to version 3. Version 3 DOES NOT convert your version 2 database, so please read the following to learn more about upgrading.
- Who is eligible to receive the free upgrade to version 3?
- All currently licensed Scrip Pro 2 (version 2) users are eligible to receive version 3 for free. Since version 3 was released within a year of version 2, this upgrade is free based on your support plan under version 2.
- How do I install and register version 3?
- Download version 3 here. Installation instructions are on this page. After installation, you will need to register your software within 30 days - you will NOT be charged for this. To register, fill out the online registration form or call us at 574-968-0827.
- Why can't version 3 read my current version 2 database?
- Version 3 cannot read your current database because of several new tracking features within the software, such as the ability to track inventories for multiple denominations and setting default discount percentages for vendors. These features are designed to make your data entry and tracking much easier. However, it also makes converting all your vendor data accurately nearly impossible, due to the various ways people have set up their vendors. Thus, by setting up a new version 3 database, you ensure accuracy in your data and optimal performance.
- Can I import my People and Vendor accounts?
- You may import your People accounts by following the the instructions in the version 3 User Guide (choose Help - Help Contents within the software) under Chapter 3 "Importing People and Vendor Accounts". Import file templates can be found under Scrip Resources. Only basic account information can be imported, sales transactions cannot. Because of new features in version 3, such as contribution splits and the ability to apply contributions to another family, it is recommended that you check each family to make sure they are set up correctly. Vendor accounts should NOT be imported. It is easier and better to enter each vendor in manually to ensure proper setup given our new tracking features.
- When is the best time to move to version 3?
- This largely depends on your scrip program. You may either begin using version 3 when you turn over a new scrip program year. Or, you may simply pick a good point in time to stop entering data in version 2 and start entering data in version 3. In this case you will need to refer to 2 sets of data when running reports at year end. It's best to get familiar with the new version first and see it's advantages, then make a decision that is best for your program and volunteers.
- Will installing version 3 have any effect on my version 2 data?
- No. Version 3 is a completely separate installation and does not effect your current data at all.
- Can I have both versions open at the same time?
- It is not recommended to have both versions open simultaneously. You may run into several performance issues.
- May I install Scrip Pro on a school PC and home PC?
- As long as you are the primary user, you are allowed to install Scrip Pro on a school (or other) PC and a home PC. Keep in mind that the database needs to be moved back and forth each time you enter data from each location.
- Where can I find support to get started quickly with version 3?
- If you are familiar with version 2, you will find version 3 to be easier and more intuitive. It is recommended that you view our video tutorials and reference the User Guide from within the software under Help. You may email or call us if you still have additional questions.
- Do I have to upgrade to version 3?
- No. Upgrading to version 3 is completely optional. Keep in mind that we no longer offer email, phone or product support (in the form of fixes or updates) for version 2.
